Churches on Eiderstedt

The municipalities of the parish district EiderstedtPeninsula oath first EDT

Their wealth at historical churches will be noticeable to all, which meet for the first time the landscape Eiderstedt. There is not less than 18 buildings, those nearly all their establishment on 12. Century to lead back know.

Eiderstedt at that time still consisted of three islands, their name Eiderstedt. Utholm and Everschop until today are alive. Each of these islands had its Main Church (Tönning. Tating, thing), around which soon because of bad way conditions further so-called land chapels grouped themselves. Except this reason for the wealth at churches the Wohlhabenheit of the march inhabitants is to be called, in partial very valuable equipments of the churches among other things settled (e.g. Imported goods of baptism from Namur).

Art historians is a strong influence of the Netherlands to determine (see painting altars: Thing. Old s-word among other things). Nearly uniformly in all Eiderstedter churches we find the choir sheet filling out, partially artistically high-quality groups of triumph crosses (thing. Kotzenbüll, Tönning pc. Peter and others), the pulpits (so-called” Eiderstedter type “: Thing, joke word among other things) as well as carving altars with the representations of the passion Jesu (Kotzenbüll Osterhever. Pc. Peter, Witzwort and others). Typically for the equipment also the communion banks are from the time of the baroque (thing. Kotzenbüll, Osterhever. Tönning among other things).

Some old equipment from vorreformatorischer time kept, in Tating e.g. an old smoke barrel, in Kotzenbüll an old liturgical singer desk in Kating a lateRoman cup. Numerous altar plates are retained from Gothic Zeil (thing. Tating. Tönning among other things). Also several so-called treasure chests show considerable age. Very early organs came into the churches (oldest folder into thing: very beautiful folders in old s-word, Tating and Tönning). In addition the oldest bell of Schleswig-Holstein in the Katinger church hangs.

In all churches today still service is celebrated, at the larger places sun-daily, in the smaller places, which have often only 200-500 inhabitants, every fourteen days. The catholic municipality celebrates its services in their two, only in recent time built churches (Tönning and pc. Peter).
